British Wedding Photographer of the Year | British Wedding Awards

British Wedding Photographer of the Year Award

It really hasn’t quite hit me yet but... last night I was named Wedding Photographer of the Year at The British Wedding Awards and I’m absolutely on cloud nine! Thank you sooooo much to everyone that voted for me including my lovely couples and the readers of Wedding Ideas Magazine.

Working for yourself can sometimes be challenging and it’s often easy to be super self-critical, so moments like this really are one of a kind and make you realise you’re doing a grand job making a positive impact on so many people’s lives in the process!

I’m so incredibly thankful right now.

Janine & Neil | Houchins, Coggeshall Wedding

Houchins, Coggeshall, Essex Wedding

Being an Essex Wedding photographer is the best especially when you get to work with great couples like Janine and Neil. Add to that a stunning venue like Houchins in Colchester, lovely guests and great weather and you have the perfect conditions for shooting Essex wedding photography.

Janine and Neil chose Houchins, an idyllic venue for their late summer wedding. Set in the beautiful Essex countryside Houchins is charming, characterful and rich in history. (Oliver Cromwell was rumoured to have stayed here!) It is centered around a historic grade II listed 17th century farmhouse built by Flemish clothiers in the 1610’s, which explains the farmhouse’s unique façade. Add to this the lovingly restored wedding barn (erected by the current owners’ grandfather) and you get the perfect mix of heritage and modern chic that made this venue so perfect for Janine and Neil’s day.

Janine looked stunning in her bodice dress that hung beautifully giving her the most exquisite silhouette. With her loosely curled hair, immaculate make up, beautiful bouquet and some to die for Jimmy Choo shoes! Janine looked effortlessly beautiful. I also loved the gorgeous Jade green bridesmaid dresses and I must mention Neil and his grooms’ party who looked resplendent in full Scottish attire. (Who doesn’t love kilts at a wedding?)

Take a look at the beautiful little touches at this Houchins wedding - from the confetti favours wrapped in vintage brown paper, the rustic floral arrangements, the giant balloons, the quirky drinks van and the cheese wedding cake. They revealed so much of Janine and Neil’s personalities and style and demonstrate perfectly why I always love returning to shoot Houchins wedding photography.

A gorgeously rustic, chic and stylish wedding full of love and laughter. Congratulations to Janine and Neil for getting married and creating such an incredible day for yourselves, your family and your friends to remember.

Zara & Jonny | Brook Farm Cuffley Essex Wedding

Zara & Jonny at Brook Farm Cuffley - Essex Wedding

Some wedding venues are an Essex wedding photographer's dream and this was definitely the case with Brook Farm in Cuffley. Zara and Jonny chose the perfect location for their outdoor boho wedding in Essex. Zara was the first to admit that she struggled to find a wedding venue she liked in the UK, let alone a London wedding venue that offered everything they wanted, but when this well-traveled couple saw Brook Farm they immediately knew it was right for them.

The sun shone all day for this wild wedding in Essex which was, in Zara’s words, ‘a bit of boho and a bit of classic with lots of fun thrown in’. They had a large marquee, outdoor seating areas made from hay bales, fire pits with marshmallows and blankets, outdoor games and a VW camper van photo booth. Live entertainment was an essential part of Zara and Jonny’s day with an acoustic solo guitarist for the drinks reception and traditional Nigerian dancers in the evening, guests were always entertained. The most impressive part though was definitely Zara and Jonny’s beautifully choreographed first dance!

The wedding ceremony was held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel & Saint George in Enfield; Zara looked absolutely stunning in her Grace Loves Lace dress. Afterwards everybody headed to Brook Farm in Cuffley for the reception - Zara and Jonny traveling in a stunning Austin Healey 3000 Convertible vintage sports car.

On arrival at Brook Farm in Essex, guests were blown away by the beauty of the venue. The marquee was decorated with loads of foliage, beautiful festoon lighting and outdoor vintage decorations; an absolute dream to photograph for any Essex wedding photographer, and I was lucky enough for that to be me!

All of the food at the wedding was a real treat thanks to The Giggly Pig Company who provided BBQ style food during the day, and then in the evening guests were able to sample traditional Nigerian food lovingly prepared by Zara’s family.

Another reason I love shooting Brook Farm wedding photography is because every couple is given exclusive use of the farm which means that everybody is able to chill and enjoy themselves, taking in the tranquil views and soaking up the beauty of the Essex countryside and then stay the night in a bell tent! It is no wonder outdoor weddings in Essex are increasing in popularity, they're the perfect answer for ensuring your wedding day is relaxed and enjoyed by all.

Charlotte & Will | Essex Pre-Wedding Photoshoot

Charlotte & Will are such beautiful free spirits and this pre-wedding photoshoot in Essex was so much fun because they were so completely natural with each other and their love just inspired me! After a period of time sharing an office and sitting at opposite desks, Charlotte & Will quickly fell for each other after finding they had quite a few things in common - cats & Comic Con to be precise! They now live together in Essex with their two cats and are planning their wedding at Chichester Hotel in Essex later this year, which I'm very excited about!

If you're getting married then a pre-wedding photoshoot is such a great way to get to know your photographer and also have so much fun at the same time! Not to mention the beautiful selection of photographs you'll have prior to your wedding day.

Bryony & Tom | Lodge Farm Barns Nazeing Wedding

Lodge Farm, Nazeing Common, Essex Farm Wedding

Waking up on the morning of Bryony & Tom's wedding at their family farm I was a little worried... The clouds were thick and grey, the air humid and threatening and the forecast predicting a storm. Thankfully the storm held off (even though rainy wedding photographs can be awesome!) as I doubt Bryony & Tom would have appreciated their beautifully planned tipis flooding!

Although the sun rarely showed its face throughout the day, it was all just so perfect. The relaxed atmosphere that surrounded me whilst photographing the girls getting ready was so calming and this followed suit the entire day, it all just felt so perfectly relaxed.

Bryony and her bridal party's arrival on her Father-in-Law's tractor was definitely an entrance to remember and this set the tone for the whole day, full of unique, quirky, rustic touches such as tug of war and digger photobooth station!

Inside the wedding tipis at Bryony & Tom's Essex farm wedding was such a beautiful display of tableware, honeypot favours and lavender centrepieces.
